Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology

A partnership between Salisbury University and Frostburg State University

The Grant

"Interning in the New Millennium" is a U.S. Department of Education PT3 Implementation Grant.  The total award for this three-year grant is $752, 295.  In recognition of the urgent need for technology-proficient educators, the U.S. Department of Education, with the support of Congress, offers this important initiative to prepare tomorrow's teachers to use technology for improved teaching and learning. 

 

The Project

Salisbury University and Frostburg State University are working jointly throughout this implementation grant. Project objectives and strategies are centered around three project goals. 

bullet Goal 1 addresses revision of teacher education curriculum to integrate technology throughout all programs. To meet this goal two summer workshops will bring together faculty from each university along with K-12 teachers to
develop technology-rich lessons to be integrated into the preservice programs. In addition, on-going workshops throughout the grant period will increase the knowledge and skills of faculty in use of the latest technologies. 
bullet Goal 2 addresses the development and implementation of a process to support candidates as they create electronic portfolios to demonstrate mastery of technology outcomes. 
bullet Goal 3 addresses the need to integrate technology into all field experiences. Teachers candidates will be provided with sets of laptops to take into technology-poor classrooms. Professional development for K-12 teachers will be provided. The proposed activities will develop the required technology-related knowledge and skills identified in the Maryland Teacher Technology Outcomes."
