SSU - Goal One

There are a variety of activities occurring at SU to achieve our year-one goals.  A summary of our primary activities follows:

Goal 1
(Improved faculty skills and revision of teacher education curriculum to integrate technology throughout all programs)

Professional Development

bulletThe first six day PT3 summer institute was held at Salisbury University, July 2001.  Forty faculty attended the workshops in teams of six, including arts/science faculty and public school teachers.  The purpose of the institute was to integrate technology into faculty courses.  Description of the institute is below:

SU Summer PT3 Institute:  PT3 at the Beach!!
Workshops for Academic year 2000-2001
Workshops for Academic year 2002-2003

bulletThe second six day PT3 summer institute was held at Frostburg State University, July 2002.  Click here to learn about PT3 in the Mountains.
bulletInstead of conducting scheduled workshops, in year two we surveyed the faculty to identify projects that the faculty wanted to work on.  Faculty wanted to work on projects such as WebCt, PowerPoint, email, course web pages. The UTTA (Undergraduate Technology Teaching Assistants worked with faculty individually to work on these projects.  During the Fall 2001 semester, UTTA worked over 46 hours with faculty . One UTTA helped Doug Ball to create a WebQuest that was based on a case study of a student being referred for special education.  Students read about the K-12 student's needs and then had to work through a process to find instructional techniques and solutions to meet the identified needs.

Needs Assessment

bulletDuring each semester, we surveyed the faculty to determine the use of technology by faculty.  Click here to examine the findings and conclusions.

Curriculum Development

bulletDr. Ball and Dr. Bond helped the Elementary Education committee to examine curriculum and discuss ways that the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards can be met throughout the program. We also revised syllabi for the Computers in Education courses in our elementary and secondary programs.

Collaborating with K-12 Partners

bulletDr. Ball linked with a PDS and provided professional development in technology for PDS faculty using the mobile laptop cart purchased through the PT3 grant funds.  Tech training and technology equipment is being provided to the PDS site on an ongoing basis.
bulletOn-going workshops for faculty, designed to improve skills and to inform faculty about use of technology in our local schools
bulletIn December the technology supervisor and a classroom teacher Tech-Rep made a presentation during a faculty meeting to show examples of how computers can be used in instruction and as learning tools in the classroom.
